Meet God: If you're reading this page, then you are being touched, one way or the other, whether you realise it or not (and whether you like it or not!), by God's blessed Holy Spirit. God tells us that He wants us to be either hot or cold about Him, but not lukewarm - in other words, either strongly for Him, or strongly against Him, because that way at least He is in our minds and He can then work in us. If we are lukewarm, we probably don't care one way or another, and since God never forces His way into our lives (He gives us free will, free choice) He can't - or won't - be working in a lukewarm person's soul. So He says He wishes we were either cold or hot, but if we aren't either, He will spew us out of His mouth! (Check this out in the book of Revelation, chapter 3 : verses 15, 16. Revelation is the last book in the Bible.) That means if you die tonight, or today - maybe in the next few minutes, even; these things happen! - your destination is not a seat beside Him, a place in Heaven where praises are sung right around the clock, and where you are bathed in His glory and delight and love forever. No, it means you will be turned away from Heaven's door, just as you turned Jesus away from the door to your heart when He knocked. That separation from the One I love would be hell enough for me, never mind all that fire and brimstone and weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth! And if you are going to believe the Bible, you have to take it wholesale; it's a MANUAL, not a MENU that lets you pick and choose the bits you like. Jesus spoke of hell. I believe Him. Do you? Or are you waiting for death to come, to find out? The moment of your death will be too late. BUT the other side of the coin is how much God loves us! He doesn't want to spew us out of His mouth; He wants us to come into a close relationship with Him. He longs to walk and talk with us, and for us to talk with Him and to walk with Him, our hands securely clasped in His. God doesn't demand things of us, He asks them, and only when we are ready. If you haven't yet met God your Saviour - Jesus Christ - then He is speaking to you right now through this web page (isn't that great? "To the ends of the earth"!), knocking on the door of your heart, asking you to open up, to welcome Him inside, to come to Him and let Him love you. If I get you a gift, and stand here holding it out to you, that gift means nothing unless you take it from me, and unwrap it, and delight in it. You have to TAKE Jesus Christ before He can be effective in your life. Do you understand just how much God loves each of us? How much He loves the world He created? Can you even begin to imagine the pain of watching your loved one tortured, hanging in agony on a cross, covered in a black cloud as the sins and diseases of the world overcome him and he finally dies? "For
God so loved the
world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
BEST NEWS is, though : Jesus is knocking on your heart and soul and mind right now! Yes He is, 'cos you're reading this! - All you have to do is :
If you aren't sure how to pray, or how to just talk to God, here's a short prayer you can use, or adapt into your own words. It doesn't matter so much what you say, as what you really mean and want to do. Become still inside yourself; concentrate your being on what you are trying to say to Him. He will understand. "Father
God, I believe that You sent Your Son to save me. I believe
that You love me and want me to turn to You. I recognise
that I am a sinner, and I want to turn away from all that
and make Jesus the Lord of my life. I know I need You to
help me with that. I ask Your forgiveness for my wrongs;
I ask that You wash me clean and make me whole. Come into
my heart, Lord Jesus. Thank you that You love me so much
that You laid down your life for me. Please help me to become
worthy of Your love. Amen." If you just became a child of God and made Jesus the Lord of your life, then it's essential for you to find like-minded people with whom you can fellowship. A new-born baby would never survive if left in the wild on its own. It needs to be fed, kept warm, comforted, protected from wolves and lions and tigers and serpents (!), by its family. This really is vital; when I was still a baby Christian I was too pleased with myself and sure of my commitment and strength, and soon after I became a born-again Christian 22 years ago I happily went into the African bush to live where I had no fellowship. Pride comes before a fall (it says so in Proverbs!), and I fell. It isn't worth it. But isn't it wonderful to know that if we just turn back to Him again in true repentance, no matter how many times we fall, He is quick to forgive us - how often? Seventy times seven!!! Seven is a number symbolising perfection and continuance. It means God forgives us as often as it takes for us to achieve perfection, I guess - is that a lot, or what! Besides, now that you're one of Jesus's followers, the Holy Spirit will draw you and convict you and work in you. The result will be a deep desire to know more, to do more, to talk about Him more. People who have just fallen in love do nothing but irritate people who aren't in love with their ceaseless talk about how wonderful it all is, how wonderful their loved one is. It's natural to want to do this when you discover you love Jesus. Go talk to other people who love Him too. You'll be amazed what a high that is! I haven't cluttered this page up with scripture references amidst the flow of my thoughts, but if you want Word confirmation of anything I've said above please email me, or better still, ask your church minister/pastor, or a Christian friend, or look in the concordance section of your Bible (if a Bible has a concordance it's usually at the back. It connects the words you look up with whole phrases, and tells you where that phrase appears in the scriptures.)
